The FDA has approved the first electronic pill that contains no medicine yet could revolutionize medications.

The pill keeps track of what your doctor says you should be taking. Dr. Ezriel Kornel, a neurosurgeon with Weill Cornell Medical College in West Harrison, says the pill has a built-in tracking device that records when patients are taking their medications. It then sends a message from the pill's sensor to a patch on a person's skin.

The pill is approved to treat patients with conditions such as depression and bipolar disorder.

Doctors say it won't pose any health risks, but patients are concerned that the pill is an invasion of privacy once ingested.

Dr. Kornel says not every patient is that honest and that the pill allows doctors to do their jobs more effectively.

The price of the pill and when the pill will be on the market are still not known.
