Police: Tenafly police officer crashes during pursuit

A Tenafly police officer crashed into a utility pole during a pursuit in Cresskill, according to a spokesperson for the Tenafly Police Department.
The officer crashed in a residential area Monday afternoon near County Road and Palisades Avenue. Neighbors say that they lost power after the crash.
Tenafly police say officers were called to the Chase Bank on County Road in Tenafly for reports of a person trying to cash a fraudulent check.
Police say that when officers arrived at the bank, they found a black BMW SUV with New York license plates idling outside. When officers approached the SUV, police say the driver sped off.
The officer was not seriously injured and was treated and released from the hospital.
The driver of the SUV was able to get away, but police say that they did arrest the person inside the bank trying to cash the bad check.
Englewood resident Jai’iris Crawford, 18, now faces several charges.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the black BMW SUV or the attempted check-cashing scheme is urged to contact the Tenafly Police Department detective bureau at 201-568-5100.
