A man says his dog was attacked and killed Tuesday by a Rockland County Sheriff's Office K-9.
Thomas Forde, of New City, says his 1 ½-year-old dog, Ginger, and its caretaker were out for a walk on Grand Street when they were violently attacked by the German shepherd.
Forde says Detective Dwayne Delfino tried to separate the dogs. News 12 is told the police K-9 named Roscoe wouldn't let go – injuring the detective, the caretaker and mortally wounding Ginger.
The caretaker claims the K-9 was not on a leash at the time of the incident.
The Rockland County Sheriff's Office says the officer was hospitalized but has since been released. News 12 is told Roscoe will be kenneled until an investigation is finished.
