Bronxville police: Tis the season for scammers and thieves

Posted: Updated:
BRONXVILLE -

Scammers are targeting Bronxville this holiday season by stealing packages off porches and even engaging in elaborate phone scams to defraud people, according to police.

Bronxville police are warning residents that the holiday season can bring out the very best and worst in people.

Officers are alerting the public to beware of con artists targeting the region through phone scams to get victims to send money over the phone and in person.

Police say that thieves are stealing packages off porches and, in other cases, the con artists are dressing up as FedEx and UPS drivers to retrieve packages under false pretenses. “This is an opportunity for the criminal to come up with different types of crime and they've been successful recently,” says Bronxville Police Chief Christopher Satriale.

The chief stresses he doesn't believe Bronxville in particular is the target of these scammers, but he says if you encounter one of the scammers over the phone just hang up. He says if they show up at your door, do what you can to alert police right away.
