Serial burglar from Bloomingburg gets 12 years in prisonPosted: Updated:
A Bloomingburg man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for burglarizing several homes in Orange County.
Robert Campbell admitted to stealing from homes in Chester, Goshen, and Wallkill between 2015 and August of this year.
The 27-year-old committed some of the burglaries while out on bail and awaiting sentencing for prior break-ins. He got eight years for the first set of burglaries in 2015 and 12 years for the ones committed while out on bail. The court ordered that all the sentences run concurrently so Campbell received a total sentence of 12 years in state prison and five years post-release supervision.
"Residential burglaries are not simply property crimes," says District Attorney David Hoovler. "Residents deserve to feel safe in their homes, and the knowledge that someone has invaded the sanctity of their residence often leaves them unable to feel fully at ease in the space where they should feel most secure. In addition, any defendant who commits crimes while out on bail deserves severe enhanced punishment."
