59 officers graduate from Westchester Police AcademyPosted: Updated:
Fifty-nine new officers graduated from the Westchester Police Academy Friday.
They were officially sworn in at a ceremony at Purchase College. The officers are taking jobs at 15 agencies across Westchester and around the rest of the state.
White Plains Officer Ahmed Danso-Faried is one of the county's newest cops. He says being a sworn officer is a big responsibility, but he looks forward to being of service to a community he loves.
This is the 144th graduating class from the police academy. Some of the officers will hit the streets as soon as Monday morning.
For new Greenburgh Police Officer Matthew Stein, joining the force runs in the family. Both of his parents are retired NYPD officers, and his sister is a policewoman, too.
"This is something we all enjoy," he says. "With my family, it was something we respected and really wanted."
