YONKERS -

The FBI says a special agent and a Yonkers police officer were conducting an investigation Friday when an exchange of gunfire left another man dead.

It happened on Aqueduct Avenue near McLean Avenue.

The FBI says the shooting happened while officers were conducting law enforcement activity and the person shot was taken to a hospital where he later died.

Authorities did not immediately release further details, but investigators shut down the area for hours.

A massive police presence remained as snow fell and temperatures dropped throughout the evening.

"I have lived here for a while," says Bernadette McMaster, an area resident. "I've never seen anything to this extent, or this extravagant."
