WHITE PLAINS -

The U.S. attorney for the southern district of New York, along with the Westchester County DA and the FBI, announced arrests and federal criminal charges against 12 members of the "Goonies" street gang in Mount Vernon.

The arrests include David Hardy, who had previously been indicted on a murder charge in Westchester County Court for the shooting death of 13-year-old basketball star Shamoya McKenzie last New Year's Eve.

Authorities also brought federal charges against Ernest Webb, who is accused of gunning down 30-year-old Dean Daniels as he was walking in Mount Vernon in 2014.

Back in March, the FBI offered rewards up to $5,000 for information in cracking several of the crimes, including the shooting of Daniels. FBI officials say offering that money was very helpful in getting the indictments.

Authorities say the federal indictments supersede any state charges the defendants are currently facing.
