NEW CASTLE -

A New Castle Town court judge ruled Thursday that a former Horace Greeley High School teacher must register as a level 3 sex offender.

Christopher Schraufnagel pleaded guilty to sexually abusing three students. The 43-year-old had previously been sentenced to three years’ probation. He also had to surrender his teaching license.

Level 3 sex offenders are considered the highest risk and must register for life.

The Westchester County District Attorney's Office released a statement saying, "We are pleased with the court's decision."

Several of Schraufnagel's former students have filed a lawsuit against him.
