Storm coats roads with ice across Hudson Valley

YONKERS -

A storm is bringing icy roads to much of the region today and could bring up to six inches of snow to some parts of northern Hudson Valley.

A winter weather advisory is in effect for northern Westchester, Rockland and western Ulster. A winter storm warning is in effect for eastern Ulster, Orange, Putnam and western Dutchess counties.

News 12 meteorologists say that lower Westchester will have temperatures around the freezing mark so the area is only expected to see rain, freezing rain, and maybe up to an inch of snow today. 

Areas above I-287 and Rockland County will see more of a mix of precipitation and 1 to 3 inches of snow. Areas farther west and north could see 3 to 6 inches of snow. The snow is expected to clear the region around 1 p.m.

Once the system passes, temperatures are expected to gradually rise. Highs are expected to be in the upper 40s on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.
