Police: Thieves target unlocked cars in several Nassau communities

Police say thieves targeting unlocked cars have recently struck 13 times in several Nassau communities.
The reported break-ins happened in Cedarhurst, East Rockaway, Hewlett, Island Park and Woodmere. All occurred during the early morning hours between Dec. 19 and Dec. 23.
Police say the thieves swiped cash, sunglasses, credit cards, gift cards, clothing, cellphone chargers and dashboard cameras.
The suspects hit 13 cars and attempted to break in to another two unsuccessfully.
News 12 was told that two to three male suspects were seen in the area driving a dark-colored Suburban.
The string of larcenies is similar to car break-ins in Massapequa and Merrick that News 12 reported within the last six weeks. There was no word on if the cases could be linked.
People say they will be keeping an eye out for suspicious activity. They are urging anyone with information about the break-ins to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
