Blind Brook H.S. student goes into cardiac arrest, collapses during basketball game

A Blind Brook High School went into cardiac arrested and collapsed during a basketball game Wednesday night.

The 17-year-old senior was playing in a game against Pelham at Pelham High School when he collapsed during the first quarter. “All of a sudden his head went back and he hit the court with a very hard bang. Everybody pretty much was stunned. There was silence, some very upset people, as the minutes went on. I was pretty shocked to be honest with you," says a witness.

A village of Pelham police officer was on scene and witnessed the cardiac arrest. The officer was able to defibrillate, start CPR immediately, and was able to get a strong pulse. The student was then rushed to Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital.

The student’s family tells News 12 that he has been on a defibrillator since arriving at the hospital.  It is unclear when he will be discharged.

Blind Brook High School is closed for vacation this week.
