ThinkSteam motivates HV teen girls

Posted: Updated:

Middle school girls from across the Hudson Valley spent part of their weekend learning something new.

About 70 girls signed up for Hudson Valley's first all-girls ThinkSTEAM event.

The event, which encourages girls to pursue and excel in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math), was held at Lakeland Copper Beach Middle School in Yorktown.

Organizers say that, as of 2016, women make up just 29 percent of the STEAM workforce. "I feel that women deserve to take more of a part in these fast growing fields. And it’s also really fun and an amazing experience to really be able to use science to catalyze global change," says ThinkSTEAM founder Jothi Ramamswamy.
