Police are asking for the public’s help to find the person who dumped a cat in the freezing cold Saturday night.
Surveillance video from outside the Patricia H. Ladew Foundation in Oyster Bay appears to show a person walk up and leave the cat on the porch. It was in the cold for about two hours before it was found by staff.
The foundation is a sanctuary for cats.
Most town-sponsored animal shelters on Long Island accept surrendered animals, making it unnecessary to dump animals in places where they may not be found and helped.
Authorities are urging anyone who recognizes the person in the video to call Nassau police or the Nassau SPCA.
