A family-owned carpet business first established 20 years ago burned to the ground in Centereach Thursday morning.

The fire broke out around 7 a.m. at Carpet Your World on Middle Country Road. 

Carinna Soriano, the daughter of the store's owner, watched as her father's business was in flames.

"It's sad to see because I grew up here," said Soriano. 

She also said that she was thankful that no one was inside at the time.

Middle Country Road remained closed for about five hours while firefighters extinguished the flames. They also salted and sanded the road after water used to fight the fire turned into ice.  

Suffolk police say the cause of the fire has not yet been determined and is still under investigation.
