Family members say a Bridgeport man is brain dead after being shot in the head on Tuesday.

The shooting happened around 5:30 p.m. on Palisade Avenue in the city's Mill Hill section. Investigators say 19-year-old Eric Heard was walking from his family's house on Price Street to buy food when he was ambushed by a male acquaintance.

Police initially reported that Heard died after being shot. But his family says he remains on life support at Bridgeport Hospital, where doctors say Heard has no hope for recovery.

No arrests have been made.
