Family sues police officer, 3 bars over crash that killed sonPosted: Updated:
The family of a Dobbs Ferry man who died in a drunken driving crash is suing the off-duty police officer involved in the accident.
According to court documents, Penelope Ward is suing ex-New Rochelle Officer Harry Kyreakedes for negligence, recklessness and carelessness in connection with the death of her son, Isaac Ward. He was 27. The family is additionally suing three local bars where Kyreakedes spent the evening drinking.
Kyreakedes and Ward were childhood friends. As News 12 has reported, they were together in Kyreakedes' Jeep Cherokee when it slammed into a tree. Investigators say Kyreakedes had a blood alcohol level of nearly three times the legal limit.
Kyreakedes has since been sentenced to up to seven years in prison.
