Police in Monmouth County say that they have arrested a woman accused of chasing stolen checks who had a fondness for wearing wigs.

Officials say that 43-year-old Brooke Slade, of Arizona, smashed car windows, stole purses and then cashed the stolen checks from dozens of locations around the state.

Slade was finally arrested in Asbury Park after an alert drive-thru bank teller recognized her from photographs posted on social media by various New Jersey police departments.

"She had numerous fake identifications. She changed her personal appearance so she’d be able to cash the checks,” says Lt. Chris Scerbo.

Police say that the arrest happened Thursday afternoon after the teller recognized the suspect. Slade was arrested after a brief foot chase.

“That teller had a good piece of mind about her and she knew what she was looking for and at that time she decided to proceed forward and call the police,” Scerbo says.

Police say that they do not believe that Slade was working alone and say that they believe she is working with the Felony Lane Gang, which has allegedly been committing crimes across the country.

“Facebook and social media is an integral part of police work today,” says Scerbo. “We want to communicate to as many people as we can to identify suspects."

Police say that the Felony Lane Gang targets purses left inside vehicles and particularly looks for young mothers.
