Somers condo residents report shocking electric bills

Posted: Updated:
SOMERS -

About a dozen Heritage Hills Condos residents in Somers say their electric bills have spikes this winter -- with some reporting totals of over $1,000.

They say the New York State Electric and Gas Corporation is billing them as much as four times the amount they paid last winter.

And they say their usage of electricity is about the same as it was a year ago.

NYSEG says the higher bills are the direct result of an increase in demand due to some of the frigid temperatures this winter. And it says it hasn't profited from the spike.

Somers' town supervisor says he's filed a complaint with the state and is working with NYSEG officials on the issue.
