New Rochelle assembles task force to help combat school violencePosted: Updated:
An independent task force is being assembled by New Rochelle to help reduce violence following recent events involving students.
Dr. Jonathan Brice was chosen to head up the task force. Brice is an education expert with over 25 years of experience in six different large school districts. He plans to visit different schools in the New Rochelle school district to get input. He says the rest of the input will come from his team made up of members of the community.
The team, which will be comprised of roughly 30 people, will be established over the coming days. Their challenge is to examine the conditions, policies and practices of the New Rochelle school system and make specific recommendations for reducing violence.
The deadline for the recommendations will be mid- to late-April. The process has been expedited so that decisions can be made that will affect the next school year.
While some seats are reserved, there are several seats available to residents who want to make a difference.
The deadline to apply to become a member of the task force is Feb. 18.
