27-year-old’s shooting death under investigation in Newark

NEWARK -

The fatal shooting of a 27-year-old man over the weekend in Newark is under investigation, law enforcement officials said Tuesday.

Authorities said officers responded to the area of Kent Street around midnight Saturday and found Justin Bethea, 27, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:49 a.m., police said.

No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.

Note: Newark police originally gave the victim's age as 17. Authorities revised their initial report on Wednesday to indicate that Justin Bethea was 27.
