Seven girls between the ages of 9 and 10 have become the first official all-girl den to join the Westchester-Putnam Council Boy Scouts of America.
The Boys Scouts of America changed their century-old bylaws rules at the beginning of the year and started admitting girls into its Cub Scout program for elementary school students.
Pack 164 has been meeting for about three weeks – learning about first aid, fire building and other survival skills.
"I can't think of a better time in our country's history to have this kind of a movement happening," says John Griffith, the cubmaster of Pack 164.
