The inspector general of the U.S. Postal Service has opened a probe into Greenburgh's delivery issues after years of complaints.
"Sometimes I get wrong people's mail," says Kevin Swersey, of White Plains. "Sometimes I don't get mail at all."
Homeowners report missing life insurance policies, financial documents and prescription medications. And local lawmakers say it's been getting worse.
"It's gotten to a point where it's totally unreliable," says Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner. "It's not impacting a few people. It's impacting hundreds of people."
Feiner says complaints have intensified from a couple every month to between 50 and 100 a week -- all of which he forwards to authorities in Washington, DC.
"If the squeaky wheel gets the oil, I'm going to be very squeaky," he says.
The approach has paid off, with the Postal Service's inspector general stepping in to investigate.
Local officials say they're not sure what's causing delivery problems. But they point the finger at the Postal Service's use of part-time carriers, who they say don't know local routes and aren't as invested in their jobs as full-time employees.
