A Yonkers family Turned to Tara to find answers about the placement of Metro-North security cameras and whether wealthier areas are given preference.
Jeni and Lynwood Wallace, of Yonkers, say their son died at the Wakefield train station shortly before his 18th birthday in 2013. While the MTA initially suggested that his death may have been a suicide, the medical examiner ruled Matthew Wallace's death accidental.  His parents still don't know how he died because the station is not equipped with cameras.
There are other stations with cameras in the area, but Metro-North has not revealed the criteria used to select camera locations.
"We have spoken to the MTA many times and still no cameras on that station. To not know his last hours, not know how he died is horrible. No parent should ever have to go through that and the MTA should have compassion to put up one stinking camera so no one else has to go through this," says Lynwood Wallace.
The Wallaces are suing, and they have the support of Rep. Shelley Mayer.
News 12 asked Metro-North for its criteria and a full list of camera locations. It said it couldn’t comment on the issue due to security reasons and the impending litigation.
News 12 followed up with a Freedom of Information request and is still waiting for the results.
