Turn To Tara: Local power companies had highest complaints in NY

While many residents feel powerless and paralyzed by recent outages caused by the two nor’easters, new data uncovered by Turn To Tara suggests that the frustration aimed at Con Edison and NYSEG is not isolated.
In January, Con Edison had more complaints than any major company in New York state. A total of 365 people complained about the utility company to the Department of Public Service - 236 more than Upstate Grid, the second-most complained about company.
NYSEG ranked as the third-worst utility company, with 94 complaints.
News 12’s data also shows Con Edison had the highest number of escalated complaints in New York in January. New York state had to step in and investigate 52 cases involving people who said the power company failed to address their concerns.
The Department of Public Service is launching a full review, directed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo, into power failures that began after Friday’s storm. It is also asking for the public’s input.
Westchester County Executive George Latimer says he is furious with the power companies. He is calling on the leadership of NYSEG and Con Edison to resign immediately.
Rep. Shelley Mayer also co-signed a letter with the entire Westchester delegation demanding a public hearing be held quickly at the Westchester County Center.
