A Brooklyn necktie shop owner says presentation is everything.
Aki Ashe says he founded Brooklyn United Ties to help men dress for the job they want but his inspiration came from a very special woman.
"It was based on, inspired by my mother who told me about dressing for success," Ashe says.
Customers who walk into his shop on 5th Avenue in Bay Ridge, are met with a burst of color.
Ashe admits, most of his customers aren't your typical tie shoppers.
"Most people who come in to buy ties are actually women," he says, "Either they're buying it for their husbands or they're buying them if they have a son or grandson."
Whether in store or online, United Ties gives customers the option to choose from over a dozen styles of satin. Each fabric is available as a tie or bowtie.
Some ties even represent different causes.
Ashe says customers can even design their own.
