The Suffolk SPCA arrested a Brentwood man who was allegedly neglecting his dog with a serious leg injury.
Investigators say a 1-year-old beagle mix was tethered outside in a truck yard in Central Islip with a leg injury after it was allegedly hit by a car more than a week ago.
Investigators were called to the location Wednesday morning. The dog was taken to a veterinarian who determined the beagle mix had a broken leg that was dislocated in two spots.
The puppy also had an open wound and was left outside without any water, investigators say.
The beagle mix is currently in the care of an animal hospital. Investigators say it might need to have the injured leg amputated.
Amner Mendoza, 44, was charged with animal cruelty.
