NEWBURGH -

Assemblyman Frank Skartados' staff announced Thursday that the long-time official who represents Newburgh, parts of Ulster and Dutchess counties, is hospitalized and is not expected to recover.

Assemblyman Skartados' staff haven't commented on what hospital he's in or what condition he's suffering from.

Colleagues and others are expressing support for the assemblyman.

"This is a guy who was absolutely a man of the people," said Newburgh City Manager Michael Ciaravino.

Skartados has been in office since 2008 and is well known for supporting and securing state funds for Newburgh.
