Utility blames power outage on squirrel nibbling wires

Posted: Updated:
FAIRFIELD -

Hundreds of Fairfield residents woke up without power Wednesday morning thanks to a nibbling rodent.

United Illuminating reported over 1,100 customers lost power in the Greenfield Hill section of town.

UI officials say the outage was caused by a squirrel chewing on wires.

At least two of Fairfield's public schools were impacted, but classes started on time.
