Community honors workers killed in L'Ambiance Plaza collapse

Community members in Bridgeport came together Monday morning to remember the 28 construction workers killed in the L'Ambiance Plaza collapse 31 years ago.
The ceremony began with several speeches from federal, state and local leaders. They joined building trade officials, construction workers, members of the police and fire departments and a few of the victims' family members.
Twenty-eight bells were rung in honor of the 28 victims.
News 12 Connecticut was on the scene following the 1987 collapse. Officials said faulty lift-slab construction was to blame, crushing the workers to death.
Since then, officials say significant strides have been made when it comes to worker safety. They say they'll be back at the site next year to make sure that momentum keeps going.
