A young woman was killed and a man was seriously injured in a motorcycle crash Sunday evening in Bridgeport.
It happened at the intersection of Park Avenue and Olive Street shortly before 7 p.m. Police say the motorcycle was traveling on Park Avenue when a car turned onto the road in front of it from Olive Street.
The motorcycle slammed into the back of the car, throwing the operator and a passenger off of the bike. Police say the female passenger, 20-year-old Miranda Elienai, died after suffering serious head injuries.
The motorcyclist, 30-year-old Danillo Andrade, remains in the hospital recovering from bleeding on the brain and a fractured wrist.
The driver of the car was identified as Tremaine Wilson, of New Haven.
Police say the case remains under investigation and it's not clear at this time if charges could be filed.
Authorities have been called to the intersection several times for accidents, some of them deadly. Neighbors say the latest crash is yet another reason why the city should install a four-way stop sign at the site.
A Democratic town committee member started a petition asking for extra stop signs after the last fatal accident in the area. The chief of police says a traffic study might be a good idea.
