New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission drivers got the chance to voice their concerns Monday about rules and safety amid a wave of violence against drivers in the Bronx.

Bronx City Councilman Andy King, TLC Commissioner Meera Joshi and NYPD representatives gathered on East Gun Hill Road to listen to drivers discuss issues such as rules of the road and other safety concerns, as well as alleged harsh treatment by the NYPD when it comes to summonses and tickets.

There have been a number of attacks against cab drivers in the Bronx over the past several months. In November, a cabbie had his thumb cut off by a passenger. In March, livery cab driver Jeffrey Camacho was shot eight times and robbed of $23.

King is looking to put out legislation that would provide real-time response to driver emergencies while on the road. According to King's office, legislation was reportedly submitted. However, nothing has actually been submitted yet.
