Gov. Andrew Cuomo is warning the Department of Immigration and Customs Enforcement about raids it conducts in New York.

The governor issued a cease-and-desist letter demanding ICE stop what he calls "reckless and unconstitutional enforcement" targeting immigrants.

If ICE doesn’t, Cuomo is threatening legal action.

The move comes after a raid upstate, in which agents arrested a farm worker allegedly without producing a warrant or identifying themselves.

Cuomo says similar arrests have happened across the state from Long Island to Western New York.

"ICE is endangering the public safety by not notifying local law enforcement and state law enforcement," the governor says.

Cuomo also signed an executive order banning ICE arrests in state facilities without a warrant.

A spokesperson for ICE told News 12 that Cuomo’s comments are inaccurate and insulting to ICE officers.

The Department of Homeland Security also chimed in.

"Governor Cuomo's disregard for the rule of law is a slap in the face to the hardworking men and women of ICE whose mission it is to uphold the laws Congress passed in order to keep our communities safe,” the department said.
