School for students with autism nears completion

Posted: Updated:

Construction for an international school for students with autism is underway in Mohegan Lake.

In September, the International Shrub Oak School will open its state-of-the-art facility and welcome students from around the world.

The privately funded school will include housing for nearly 400 people. Families will have the option to enroll for day or boarding school.

The campus features include a farm, pool, and a medical facility and clinical technicians who specialize in autism development. “Every student who comes to Shrub Oak will succeed and they will succeed in reaching their goals....I would challenge you to find a school anywhere that is going to have the expertise in the evidence based and research informed practices we'll be using,” says Dean of Education Dianne Zager.
