Alleged Route 33 shooter appears in court

The Monmouth County man who authorities say shot and killed a woman from his moving car last week had his first court appearance Saturday.
Monmouth County prosecutors have charged 34-year-old Kadar Mustafa with murder, attempted murder and weapons offenses in the death of 24-year-old Sciasia Calhoun.
Authorities say Mustafa shot at Calhoun’s vehicle while she was traveling along Route 33 in Freehold Township. Calhoun was driving on an off-ramp when the shooting occurred around 11:45 p.m. Thursday.
Calhoun was taken to a hospital but was pronounced dead there a short time later. Calhoun's boyfriend and a 1-year-old child were also in the vehicle at the time but were not injured.
News 12 is told that investigators are still waiting on ballistics testing to determine if there is a connection to a shooting on April 27 in Neptune and a shooting on April 28 in Holmdel.
Little new information has been learned about Mustafa, except for the existence of an outstanding warrant in Brick.
Both the assistant prosecutor and public defender declined comment after the hearing Saturday afternoon.
Mustafa is expected in court again on May 9.
