Car fires sour tune on Melody Lane in North Amityville

Two cars parked on a North Amityville street burned to a crisp Sunday night, prompting an arson investigation.
Neighbors say they saw thick smoke billowing just before midnight on Melody Lane. By Monday, nothing was left except black soot on the pavement and a charred license plate.
"We heard a loud crash, like a crack, and my sister called 911," says Mack Mitchel, one of the first people to arrive at the scene.
Suffolk police say the intense fires may have been lit on purpose. Both cars belonged to the same household — but they were parked on different sides of the street.
Anyone with information on the fires is asked to call Suffolk County Crime stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
