Police: Speed a factor in I-87 tractor-trailer crash

One person is in serious condition after two tractor-trailers crashed on I-87 in Newburgh Monday.
State police say the driver of one tractor-trailer, Daniel Brodeur, was speeding as he neared a construction zone by Exit 17. They say he crashed into the tandem tractor-trailer in front of him, causing it to lift up onto the trailer.
As a result, police say it took two hours to get Brodeur out of the vehicle. He was flown to Westchester Medical Center and is in serious condition.
Investigators say the other truck driver, Charles Irish, was treated and released at the scene.
One of the trucks was carrying recycled aluminum cans, which spilled out on I-87 during the crash. A hazmat team arrived on scene to clean up the spilled diesel fuel, and authorities say cranes were used to clear the tractor-trailers involved.
