Nassau legislators are calling on Albany to extend the looming deadlines for New York Rising, a program established to help homeowners whose properties suffered damage during Superstorm Sandy.

The legislators believe Gov. Andrew Cuomo should give the homeowners more time to elevate their homes.

Nassau County Legislator Steve Rhoads says, "There is no way that many of the 900 families that still have to have their homes lifted here in Nassau and Suffolk counties alone - not to mention the thousand homes in the city of New York, are ever going to be able to get that done in those timeframes."

Legislators say many homeowners have been left in limbo since Superstorm Sandy hit in 2013 due to delays caused by contractor fraud, permit delays, and lack of qualified lifting contractors.
