Several county legislators are calling for an independent investigation of New York State Electric and Gas after Tuesday’s storm left thousands without power for several days.

“To have 50,000 without power for four days is just unacceptable,” said Westchester County Legislator Michael Kaplowitz.

Kaplowitz and other county legislators requested the investigation of the utility company in a letter to Gov. Andrew Cuomo Friday.

“We want the county to do an independent audit, as assessment if you will,” said Kaplowitz. “We want six months, a study of everything NYSEG does and does not do.”

The Democratic legislator for the 4th District noted that this is the second time in two months that thousands in his area have lost power for days on end, with hundreds in Westchester and thousands in Putnam still in the dark as of Saturday afternoon.

Kaplowitz says Gov. Cuomo has already shown early support for the independent study.
