Yonkers firefighter sentenced to probation for sex assault

YONKERS -

A Yonkers firefighter who admitted to sexually assaulting a woman at a party has been sentenced to six years of probation.

Gustavo Bravo, 30, admitted to assaulting the 25-year-old woman during a Fourth of July party in 2016. He pleaded guilty in March 2017.

Bravo must now register as a sex offender.

He still works at Station 10 on Saw Mill River Road. Although still on the job, Yonkers Fire Chief Thomas Fitzpatrick told News 12 in a statement: "Gustavo Bravo was taken off the line several months ago, and we will probably be pursuing disciplinary action next week."

Archana Arora is a psychotherapist and runs a women's group called Bliss Self Love at her practice in White Plains. She says cases like this -- and the recent higher-profile prosecutions of Harvey Weinstein and Bill Cosby -- empower more women to speak out about sexual misconduct and assault.

"You are not to be ashamed, the perpetrator is to be ashamed," Arora says.
