An orphaned Monroe-Woodbury teen is getting some much-needed help from the community to finish her senior year and go to prom.
Cindy Aguiler's mother died six months ago, leaving her alone to care for two siblings. The 19-year-old is “mom” to her brothers, 3-year-old Brian and 21-year-old Alan, who has autism.
Aguiler is a Monroe-Woodbury High School senior who now home-schools herself after losing her mother. She works two jobs to make ends meet and has custody of her younger brother.
Many in the Monroe-Woodbury community are raising money to give the teenager a night off and send her to the prom.
Aguiler's prom dress was donated and a fundraiser is being held to cover other expenses for her this weekend in Central Valley.
