8 charged with mail theft in Bronxville

Another Westchester community is dealing with thieves stealing letters and packages from mailboxes.

Bronxville police say eight people from the Bronx are facing charges in connection with recent mail theft and bank fraud in Bronxville.

Authorities tell News 12 that some of the suspects are accused of using the information from stolen mail to cash thousands of dollars’ worth of fraudulent checks at a local bank.

According to investigators, some of the suspects were caught stealing mail from a box right outside the post office by using a master key.
In Yonkers, officials say more than $700,000 has been stolen in over 85 separate incidents since January.

Officials from the US Postal Inspection Service say nearly 400 collection boxes have already been modified with new security features. They say boxes in Yonkers and in Bronxville are being changed.
