Vandalism caught on surveillance video

YONKERS -

The vandalism of a neighborhood sign in Yonkers was caught on camera Sunday.

The video shows vandals smashing a McLean Avenue Merchants' Association sign early Sunday morning, right at the busy intersection of McLean and Kimball avenues.

The sign, which cost the merchants' association about $3,000, welcomes people to the “Emerald Mile.”

According to some of the business owners, they have seen a bit of an uptick in crime in the area. "Car break-ins, we get a lot of that lately. Those lime bikes, they tend to disappear over the bridge or into Mount Vernon,” says R.J. Puma.

Police say they are actively investigating the incident and working to review all area video surveillance.

The merchants association says it is planning on having a new sign made.
