Sustainable Westchester power reaches Sleepy Hollow

Posted: Updated:
SLEEPY HOLLOW -

Sleepy Hollow residents gathered Monday night to learn more about a new power vendor that will allow them to opt out of using Con Edison.

Sustainable Westchester, a power organization, is coming to Sleepy Hollow after officially launching in the county in May 2016.

Customers will have the option to choose solar or wind energy, both environmentally friendly power options.

Sustainable Westchester also say the bills should be cheaper than what customers are currently paying Con Edison because the organization orders energy in bulk.

Con Ed will continue to handle the consumers’ billing, deliver electricity through wires and respond to service outages. And Con Ed will remain the so-called provider of last resort — responsible to serve customers during outages.

An exact timeline for when Sustainable Westchester's program will come to the village was not immediately available.

Westchester Power will notify customers in Sleepy Hollow with rate details and that they have been automatically enrolled in the program — but they’ll have a 30-day window to opt out and stick with Con Ed.
