Iconic Wildwood boardwalk tramcar celebrates 70th summer

The iconic Wildwood boardwalk tramcar celebrated the start of its 70th summer in operation Monday.
The tramcar is known for its often repeated phrase of “Watch the tramcar, please,” which sounds from the car as a warning to boardwalk visitors to stay clear.
Wildwood marked the occasion by making the tramcar fare 10 cents Monday, the same price it was when the car first went into service on June 11, 1949.
John “Giggy” Gigliotti has been running the tramcar for the last 25 years. He says that the original tramcar was used in the 1939 World’s Fair in New York and was brought to Wildwood.
Gigliotti’s partner is an exchange student named Utsku, who just came to New Jersey this week from Turkey to start a summer working on the tramcar.
The 10 cent fare was only in effect for Monday. The regular fare is $3.50.
