Recently renovated Sprain Ridge pool closes for summerPosted: Updated:
Just as summer is approaching, a local pool has shut down.
The Sprain Ridge pool is closed for the season after county officials determined it is not structurally sound.
The pool was closed for six years and it opened last July after a $9.8 million renovation project.
The work took six months to complete, but Westchester County Executive George Latimer says the pool should have taken 12 to 15 months to repair.
Latimer says as a result of the rushed job, a pipe burst under the structure, among other issues.
Workers discovered the issue while they were attempting to fill the pool ahead of the 2018 swimming season.
The county is putting out bids for the next round of work to be completed, a cost that Latimer says could be covered by capital funds.
County legislators are optimistic the pool will be open again in the future, possibly in time for next summer.
