Officials say an 8-year-old boy went missing in the waters off Long Beach.
News 12 has learned the boy was last seen just before 6 p.m. Rescuers pulled his 11-year-old brother from the water near a jetty. He was taken to a hospital in stable condition.
Dozens of rescuers from the Long Beach police, Nassau police, multiple fire departments, NYPD aviation and upward of 50 people aided in the recovery effort.
The Coast Guard and dive teams continued looking into the night, but the search is expected to resume in the morning.
"Unfortunately, that's the most dangerous place to go in -- near the rocks," said Long Beach Fire Commissioner Scott Kemins. "There is a current. There are no lifeguards on duty. People don't heed the warnings."
Authorities were also investigating whether the boys were down at the beach unsupervised.
