Lawmakers approve bill to fix Verrazano Bridge spelling

The state Senate and Assembly have passed a bill that will correct the spelling of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge that connects Brooklyn and Staten Island.
The bridge is named after European explorer Giovanni da Verrazzano, whose name is spelled with two "Z’s." The bridge, however, has one "Z," reportedly stemming from a typo in the construction contract decades ago.
Brooklyn state Sen. Marty Golden introduced the bill, which is co-sponsored by Sen. Andrew Lanza.
If Cuomo signs off on the bill, reports say the MTA will modify road signs as they wear out and need to be replaced.
News 12 did not immediately hear back from the governor's office or MTA for comment.
