A New Jersey couple is facing charges after they allegedly attacked the owners of a jewelry store during a robbery attempt.
Wayne police say that officers were called to Massola Jewelers on Preakness Avenue Tuesday morning for reports of a robbery in progress.
Officials say that Emily Lopazanski and Marc Niedle walked into the shop just after 11 a.m., and threatened the employees with a shotgun. Police say that during the robbery, a struggle ensued and the owners were assaulted with Mace.
Officials say that Wayne Police Lt. Robert Simpson arrived on scene and found the owners struggling outside with Lopazanski. Niedle had already run away from the area, according to police.
Lopazanski was placed under arrest. Police say that she had several white zip ties inside her clothing to be used as temporary handcuffs.
Niedle was arrested several hours later at Newark Liberty International Airport. Officials say that Niedle was waiting for a flight to Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
