Construction begins at several Metro-North stations

PORT CHESTER -

A $91.5 million construction plan has begun at several Metro-North stations in the Hudson Valley.

The Port Chester station is one of five stations in the region that are getting a major upgrade.

The $13.2 million project in Port Chester includes repairs on the Westchester Avenue rail bridge, a new canopy and plaza for improve pick-up and drop offs, refurbishing the parking lot, new benches, WI-FI, and recycling along the platforms.

The Port Chester project is expected to be completed in early 2019. Officials say Westchester Avenue will have lane and sidewalk closures during the construction.

Just last summer, the station underwent $6.2 million project to improve handicap accessibility.

White Plains, Harlem-125th Street, Crestwood, Port Chester and Riverdale stations are the other stations involved in the capital spending plan.
